Have you seen any really cool looking caps around town? The kids who came to Story Hour on Tuesday, February 18 can show you theirs! Crystal Andersen read the book “Caps for Sale” by Esphyr Slobodkina. Dale donated some of his caps, so everyone got busy decorating their very own cap. The photos show the great designs and the happy heads wearing them. Thanks Crystal and Dale for the story, the activity, and the cookies! And thanks Chase Hagen for helping out again.

There many books there were added to our collection in January and February. There are Mysteries, Thrillers, Historical Fiction, Romances, and other genres that you’ll want to check out. And there are always the Classics that you may want to reread.
The sun is shining. The snow is melting (a little). And Brenda will be back in the library next week!

It’s always warm at the library! And there’s so much to do here. Do you need a good read? Want to explore your ancestry? Do you have a fishing license, job application, passport request, or Amazon return label that needs printing or copying? We can help you with all that and more! There are magazines and newspapers to read and movies to check out. Take advantage of the services at your hometown library. You’ll be amazed.
Our apologies to Chase Hagen for misspelling his last name in last week’s news. Chase did such a great job with his Story Hour contribution. He returned this week to help out during Story Hour. He has become a valuable “Friend” of the library.
The library received three beautiful books from Paula Scavera and Steve Haavig, that have been added to our collection – Southeast Alaska’s Natural World, Brown Bears of Admiralty Island, and Pack Creek Bears & The Legacy of Stan Price. Thank you, Paula and Steve.
The library relies heavily on book donations and has been given so many bestsellers and great series. Every donor and every volume is appreciated.

Greetings from the library. For all you rock lovers current and soon to be. I want to thank Chase Hagen for helping out with story hour last Tuesday. Chase brought his rock collection and shared a little rock classification knowledge with us. Mary Mostad read “Space Rock” A very cute and captivating story by Jon Buller and Susan Schade. A book our library acquired in 1989. The kids loved it. After, for snacks Mary and I fed the kids rock cookies, by that I mean cookies that really looked like rocks. I may have, for a moment, had the kids believing I was eating a rock. Thank you Chase for helping with story hour. February 11, Valentines Day Party, I will be hosting this one.

I don’t know how many little libraries have a mosasaur, but ours does.
I want to give a BIG THANKS! To Clint Boyd, Becky Barnes and Trisha from ND Geological Survey for the great story hour presentation, the wonderful mosasaur display and the coloring books and nonfiction books now added to our library. Becky’s story “Prehistories: Mosasaur” is a wonderful story and was read right here for the first time ever. Thank you, Becky. We are honored. The day was a great success.
As for that mosasaur, he now has a great name. Zander Duerre came up with the perfect name. Our mosasaur shall now be called “Walhalla George from the Pembina Gorge.” Best name ever Zander. Stop in and see George.
Next week our reader will be Heather Duerre. Heather will be getting us ready for Ground Hog Day! That will be Tuesday, January 29, at 4:00 pm. I know Heather will do us proud for sure.

Calling all old fossils! Clint Boyd will be bringing our mosasaur back on Tuesday! Clint is the senior paleontologist, curator from Bismarck. Clint will also be bringing a new book for story hour to go with it. If you happen to have any fossils or bones you would like Clint to identify he will be happy to do that too. Stop by and see our mosasaur! We also will have to give it a name. We will have to wait until clint tells us if it is a girl or boy before we pick one, but keep that in mind.
I want to thank Deirdre and Tulie for reading the story last week. they both did a great job.
We have a lot of new books on the shelves. It’s too cold to go outside. The best thing to do is snuggle up with a good book.

Here we are, back to work at the library. The holiday season has come and gone, the year is now 2020, a new decade. We are ready for it! Last week Melanie Thornberg was our reader. Mel read “Squirrel’s New Years Resolution” a cute story by Pat Miller. After a fun craft the kids got to make healthy choices by preparing their own salad. No, we don’t always feed them sugary snacks. The kids had a blast, I however had to dodge out early as a grouse apparently decided it wanted to live in my house and tried to make entry through the dining room window. I quickly called the lumber yard to help me deal with glass and an open window, which they did. Within 15 minutes Pete Danielson was on the spot. I really do love this town.
Next week Deirdre Lee will be our reader and Deirdre will be bringing a special guest with her to tell the story. The kids are really going to love this one…me too! That’s Tuesday January 14th.
Following Deirdre on Tuesday Jan 21st Clint Boyd, the senior paleontologist/curator from Bismarck ND will be our story reader. Clint will be bringing a special gift to our library. Do not miss that one!
Last Tuesday of January the 28th our reader will be Heather Duerre. Now we are getting close to Ground Hog Day!!!! I can’t wait to see what Heather has in store for us!

I want to thank all the people who participated in our Holiday Open House Poker Run. It was the first of hopefully many. I also want to thank Barb Gratton, one of our board members who put the whole thing together. I want to thank all the board members for helping out and Mary and Anne for working on a Saturday to help with the event. I was absent on a much needed vacation, thank you Mary Mostad for giving me that. Mary covered the whole week for me. Mary I love ya!
The poker run winners were Lori Baker with the high hand and Bernie Kopf with the low hand. Bernie donated $50.00 of her winnings back to the library. Thank you Bernie.
Story hour was a hit, Crystal and I both read one. Mine was a book from a recent vacation I took with Lorraine Beauchamp to Branson Missouri. Lorraine purchased the book “How I Learned to Fly” by Janice Martin for our children’s section. Crystal Andersen read” I Am Owl” by Libby Walden. After the kids helped us decorate the Christmas tree and get ready for” Light Up Walhalla”.
Next week Crystal reads, and she is bringing pets for the kids to adopt. (Stuffed pets). The following week our reader will be Bernie Kopf. Then we will be shut down for Christmas and New Years.

Story Hour! Thanks to Emily Carpenter for sharing her story of the time she spent as a National Park Ranger. She even brought her uniform. We learned about the rangers’ duties and their ultimate responsibility to preserve the parks. The story “The Camping Trip that Changed America” was about Teddy Roosevelt and how much he loved our forests and waters and wildlife. The children made bird feeders with cardboard rolls, peanut butter, and bird seed. And there were S’mores and milk for a snack! There sure is a lot of fun around here. Crystal Andersen was the reader on Tuesday, November 12. Thanks Crystal for filling in at the last minute! On November 19th, Spencer Clairmont will be here.
FUNdraiser! We’re having a FUNdraiser! You can support the library and win some CASH! Yes! FUN and CASH! On Saturday, November 23 stop at the library during Walhalla’s Holiday Open Houses and participate in the Library Poker Run. And you don’t have to run. You can stroll, walk, or drive to the Walhalla businesses that will be checkpoints. The event runs from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM. The Fee is $10 per entry and the payout is 50%. Just a reminder that in addition to being open until 7:00 pm on Wednesdays, the library is open Saturdays from 11:00 am –1:00 pm. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday we are open from 11 am to 5 pm. Come check it out.
